Stone Work
At Caviness Landscape Design, one of our specialties in hardscape is dry laid stone retaining walls. An eco-friendly form of hardscape, stone is the oldest construction material known. The dry stone method is successful as a building technique because they resist fire, water, and insects. It does not deplete natural resources, and is a beautiful compliment to the landscape. This is truly an art form, and our highly skilled craftsmen use a special method that uses gravity and frictional resistance, resulting in a slight flexibility. This allows ground movement to lock the structure more tightly together. Dry laid stone retaining walls are an excellent choice in most applications. However, when used close to a swimming pool, a dry joint application is recommended for silting issues that keep dirt and debris from going into the pool.
